What is the 12:2 Rebellion?
The 12:2 Rebellion is not just a student ministry for middle school and high school, its an idea that we should all carry with us every day. The Rebellion is based on Romans 12:2 which says,
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Young people are under more pressure than ever to conform to the ways of our broken world. As humans in this world, we have to learn to rely on God for our strength. Part of the way we do this is by being in fellowship one another. Fellowship is not just for adults, and we believe that young people are more capable than we often give them credit for! Sometimes they just need a group to grow in and with. Additionally, they are in a crucial stage of life where they are figuring out who they are and who they will become. While none of us, not even their parents, can answer that for them; GOD CAN! It is HIS good, pleasing, and perfect will!
In the 12:2 Rebellion, we have three primary goals
- ENGAGE: We want to build real and lasting relationships with our students, providing a place where they feel safe and comfortable to be vulnerable but also where they don't feel pressured. We know this takes time and trust and we want to respect our students' feelings and experiences.
- EQUIP: We want to prepare our students for the future, but also prepare them to BE the future for both our world and the Church. We want to dive into difficult topics that they are already facing from a loving and biblical point of view and also help them build up their own knowledge of God's Word.
- EMPOWER: We believe that our students are the future church. We believe that our students are future leaders. We believe in giving our students opportunities to lead and love others like Jesus did because we believe in Jesus but we also believe in our students!
As Christ-followers, we strive to be in this world but not of it because Christ said, “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36). When we say “I am a 12:2 Rebel,” we are declaring that Christ is Savior, Lord, and King. We are committing to live for Him and walk the narrow path. We are accepting that he is more powerful than the forces of this world.
